SMBs Set to Embrace More Technology in 2017

A recent report from CompTIA indicates that SMBs are ready to spend big on technology this year, even when it’s not clear whether their business goals are being met after implementation.

Of 600 businesses surveyed, only 16% believe they are getting an excellent return on their tech investments. While 44% claim good ROI, another 40% characterized their results as “just okay” or “disappointing.”

The report, The Business Relevance of IT in the SMB Market, suggests that part of the problem with ROI may be unrealistic expectations. SMBs may not have a clear vision and strategy for how various technologies form a solution or solve a business problem.

Nevertheless, CompTIA predicts more technology spending, as SMBs seek to boost their IT security, data management, and modernization efforts. Against this backdrop, it’s still important that ROI be improved.

DataLink President & CEO Mylon Staton believes SMBs can achieve better ROI results by selecting a technology partner who can strategize with them and consult from a business perspective.  “It’s very important that they understand why they are investing in technology and what to expect on return.”
